Master Data Management (MDM)
CDI Components – Master Data Management (MDM):
Master Data Management (MDM) is concerned with ensuring data quality across your organisation. As data is passed into the CDI it can be improved using techniques such as:
- Cleaning – Identification of missing, default or dummy data and fixing these problems.
- Standardisation – Ensuring your data is held consistently. This includes data format (such as phone number and organisation name formats) and data integrity (such as a customer with a salutation of ‘Mrs’, but is marked a ‘Male’). This can also include standardisation using third party software (such as address validation packages to validate and standardise addresses based on post code).
- De-duplication – Identification and merging of duplicate records. This may result in the duplicate records being merged in the source system or being left as separate records in the source system but flagged as duplicates in the CDI.
If data has been improved using the MDM component of the CDI, then it may be passed back to the source system that originated the data (and any other source systems that subscribe to the data). This ensures that data quality is maintained across all systems in a consistent manner.
SAM7 have experience in implementing MDM using both Datanomic and bespoke software applications.
